Crisis

These works are a response to the visible and existential threat to the natural world at this point in Earth’s history.  As an artist, I felt compelled to create this art as a way of dealing with feelings of hopelessness and powerlessness in the face of this devastation and impending loss.  The plastic debris series are based on direct observations of the tideline of Watergate Bay beach in Cornwall.  ‘The Red List’ (painted during lockdown in 2020) is a depiction of all 67 British breeding birds placed on the RSPB Red List of Conservation Concern (2016 – 2020) and aims to show both the vulnerability and beauty of these birds.  The ‘Mea Culpa’ series are photographs of dead birds observed in my local area, that show a grace in death, whether from natural or human causes.
